Evolution Korea
Until recently the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with the creationists, fearing that doing so could boost the credibility of the group. Silence is no longer an alternative.
The STR has been fighting to get rid of textbooks that describe evolution, such as the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an early bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the way in which the development paradigm has changed.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their surroundings and this can lead to changes in genes, or even entire genomes. Over time these changes could result in the creation of new species. Natural selection is the most popular theory of evolution. It explains how people who have advantages are more likely to reproduce and survive than those with less advantageous traits. Over time, this differential reproduction can lead to the development of entirely new species.
The word "evolution" is derived from the Latin word meaning unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and in other fields. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this view. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833 challenged this notion and borrowed the term "evolution" from Geoffroy's student to describe the view that existing species change into other species in a gradual and predictable manner.
In recent years evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living organisms develop traits that increase their chances of survival or ability to produce offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population develop new physical traits or biological functions. Such a variation in gene frequencies is called natural selection, and it is the main driver of evolutionary changes. However, non-genetic changes such as increases in muscle mass from diet or exercise can't be considered examples of evolution because they are not passed on to future generations.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven to be true by thousands of scientific tests and it has stood the test of time. They claim that the theory shouldn't be taught at school. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high school textbooks, including the removal of any mention of the evolutionary roots of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur that is thought to be the ancestral bird's parent.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains how Earth and all its living species evolved. It is also a fundamental part of biology, and aids scientists to understand how living organisms work and grow. Evolution also demonstrates how different species are connected. Scientists study evolution to gain a better understanding of the natural world, and also to make important discoveries, such as developing new medicines.
The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. No other scientific theory explains more about the universe as the life on this planet. It has been rigorously examined and confirmed for many years. Many people, including some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to remember that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs as it only addresses physical objects, events and processes.
In fact many religious people have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. For example, some Christians believe that God created the world through evolution and that humans share an ancestry with other animals.
It is important for scientists to support the teaching of evolution. Unfortunately, in a few nations around the world, anti-evolution sentiment is growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the removal of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the avian ancestral Archaeopteryx.
It is vital to remember, however, that the evidence in support of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a broad range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently verify the evidence.
The majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support are diverse. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions, such as developing treatments and other treatments, while others are driven by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others hold a an intense belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything in it. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be interpreted in a literal manner. Although Creationists may not all be Christian but many are. Creationists generally fall in two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The YECs are perhaps the most well known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of the six days of creation was literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were only created recently.
OECs are not as well-known However, they are just as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is a myth.
Both types of creationism reject that scientific principles such as natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life started on Earth. They argue that evolution is not possible because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles because they feared they could lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their view "theistic evolution." This is sometimes referred to as "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created 에볼루션 카지노 사이트 species." In this view, God creates the original species and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species similar to the original.
Other creationists hold that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the first species were all created at the same time, and that they evolved slowly afterwards. They also reject the concept of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable.
In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education, the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, certain academic institutions and scientists are more flexible, and allow the inclusion of creationism and evolution in their curricula.
What is Creationism?
When people think of the concept of the concept of creationism, a lot think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. Publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they will remove references to evolution in their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) is the one who has led this effort. The STR has won its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of an avian, called the Archeopteryx. Its sights are now set on removing excerpts from Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution as well.
STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its goal, it says, is to rid the world of what it calls "atheist materialism" which portrays an image of students as being negative. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the United States. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The reasons aren't evident, but they could be due to religion or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.
The KACR achieved many things through its lectures and seminars in the past. It publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a cosmological perspective. This sparked an interest in the college community. In 1991, a professor and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university, and it continues to be taught to this day.
On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad, including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR and its members have been giving talks on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
